Valentine's

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Friday February 14th, a day of love and a day of dread. This day may be frowned upon by some, however, whether you are single or in a relationship, make the most of it! I used to buy myself one flower if I had nobody to give me one.

CITRUS CHAOS

RED VELVET AND THAT SLOW SOUTHERN STYLE

My reasoning for liking this day is not the romance, the overpriced chocolates or 3 course meals, it's the fashion!

V DAY MAKEUP

I created this Valentine's Day 2019. Pink eye-shadow and lip stick plaster my face. I used glitter on both the eyes and lips. This look was inspired by the fashion designer Elizabeth Whibley. To achieve the heart shapes under the eye I cut out heart shapes using masking tape and stuck the cut-outs onto my skin. I used an eye shadow brush and pink (or your preferred color) eye shadow to dab the color over the heart shapes. The earrings are actually made from key chains. I cut off the pom poms from the key chain and attached safety pins to them. Voilà.

DROP DEAD RED

This valentine's day I opted for a red velvet dress (picture one) which was gifted to me four years ago. I don't wear it nearly enough! I paired it with fish net tights and Jadon Cherry Red Dr Martens. The necklace is based off the film Kiki's Delivery Service which adds some quirkiness to the outfit. The necklace can be found in any Hot Topic store. I paired the red velvet dress with a black and white checkered suit jacket from Stradivarious.

This tight red corset styled dress is originally from Missguided. I bought the suit jacket and corset dress in TK Maxx. I've been doing my best this year to shop second hand and am proud to say I've only bought a few new pieces of clothing in the last 6 months (at a Forever 21 liquidation sale). Everything else has been handed down to me or bought in the local thrift store close to my house.

Valentine's day has been pumped into our brains through advertisements as solely a romantic holiday. Treat it as you would any other holiday and celebrate yourself. I enjoy dressing the part in red.

Here are some dresses I absolutely adore and feel they represent Valentine's Day to the core. Lirika Matoshi is one of my favorite designers. This brand represents everything I love about fashion. Growing up I would pin daisy's to my fish net stockings. This brand became widely popular due to the unique glittery mesh stockings they create.
